An Endicott man is facing a half dozen charges along with tickets for traffic violations after he allegedly tried to run from Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Officials say 33 year old Sengamany Savatxath was seen running a red light at the intersection of Downs Avenue and Prospect Street in the Town of Dickinson at around 4:45 a.m. June 27 then failed to stop for the Deputy.

Authorities say the Savatxath fled through residential streets in the Town of Dickinson and Johnson City before officials caught up with him on Endicott Avenue in Johnson City.

Deputies say Savatxath got out of the vehicle and ran, tried to get rid of a backpack and fought with police before he was taken into custody.

Officials say they found the backpack had a large quantity of packaged heroin, crack cocaine and prescription pills inside.

Savatxath is charged with three felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and numerous traffic violations in Johnson City and the Town of Dickinson.

He was sent to the Broome County Jail.
