The National Weather Service in Binghamton is warning residents to be aware of the possibility of flash flooding for possibly several days with thunderstorms predicted into early next week.

NOAA had issued a flash flood watch starting at 2 p.m. Thursday through Friday afternoon.

Storms with the potential of prolonged heavy rain could cause rapidly rising water in smaller creeks and streams as well as poor drainage areas in urban settings.

While flash flooding was considered a possibility for the smaller tributaries, the rising water in main stem rivers were not expected to flow over the riverbanks.

Residents living, working or traveling through flood prone areas are encouraged to keep up on current forecasts and weather statements and keep close watch on waters that frequently flood.
