Flash Flooding is Possible for the Twin Tiers

A flash flood watch is in effect for portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania, including Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Tioga and Tompkins Counties in New York State and Bradford, Northern Wayne and Susquehanna Counties in Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service says rain will continue, heavy at times, through Monday morning. Widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected. The highest rainfall totals will likely impact areas near and west of Interstate-81. Wind gusts are also topping 30 mph.

Localized flash flooding is a major concern, especially where the heaviest rain bands set up. Also, significant rises are expected on the main stem rivers, with minor flooding likely for at least several locations.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

River flooding is likely but is not expected to be wide-spread.
