Interstate 81 southbound was closed for close to three hours following a crash involving  reportedly three tractor trailers, two of which became completely engulfed in flames.

Broome County Emergency Services officials and the New York State Department of Transportation report the big-rigs crashed near exit three at the Broome Industrial Park at around 5:40 this morning.

A tractor trailer hauling cars and a Dole banana truck were both reported on fire.

Getting water to the scene proved difficult but Kirkwood fire crews were able to tap into a hydrant on Loughlin Road to get adequate water to the site.

One person was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
