The buildings to be torn down are at 488 and 490 Chenango Street; 111 Walnut Street; 53 Mary Street; and 20 Lisle Avenue.

All Around Excavating of Johnson City will be paid about $204,000 to do the work.

In a statement, Mayor Richard David said he's committed to cleaning up city neighborhoods.

Most of the money for the demolitions has been transferred from vacant personnel lines in the city budget. The rest of the cost is coming from federal Community Development Block Grant funds.
