UPDATE: 1:30pm: Human remains have been found.  Identification of the body is pending an autopsy.

The remains were found in a container in the water.  Police did confirm that the remains were those of an infant, but would not speculate whether they those of Baby Levon, who has been missing since May 29, 2013.

An autopsy will be performed by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The first “water search” is taking place in the Mohawk River off of Leland Avenue in Utica.

Seven divers from the New York State Police are searching the water alongside Utica Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation authorities and the Oneida County District Attorney’s office.

To that end Leland Avenue from I-790 South will be closed to traffic until the search is complete.

Utica Police Sergeant Steve Hauck says he will not comment on whether other suspects have been identified, or whether a crime has in fact been committed.  He was careful to say that Utica Police have not interviewed Javon after Wameling asked for an attorney, but said that he could not comment as to whether other law enforcement agencies had spoken with him

New York State Police are announcing that the baby’s father, Javon Wameling. is under arrest facing felony burglary charges.  Jim Rondenelli’s story is below:
