Firefighters from all over New York State are continuing to meet in Binghamton this week for the annual New York State Firefighters Association convention.

The events paused June 29 outside the City fire station to remember firefighters who have passed away this year.

Association President Mike McManus says the Firefighters’ Association is pushing for better medical coverage for firefighters who suffer numerous medical problems, including higher rates of cancer, as a result of what they do and the hazardous conditions and materials they encounter.

The firefighters’ annual convention was last held in Binghamton six years ago.
