Two connected buildings in downtown Binghamton damaged in a blaze several weeks ago are being demolished.

Fire tore through the structures at 162 Henry Street on March 26. Several people were left homeless. A man sustained burns when he rescued a three-year-old girl from the burning structure.

Shortly after the blaze, the city gave the property owner 30 days to tear down the buildings.

When the owner did not comply with the order, Mayor Richard David said the city would handle the demolition. The city hired Gorick Construction for the job.

The damaged structures were located across the street from the NYSEG Stadium parking lot.
