Officials in Chenango County are looking into the cause of a trailer fire that drew crews from five fire departments to State Highway 23 in South New Berlin.

The blaze was reported at 2:10 a.m. October 14 and crews were on the scene for almost 4 hours.

One person was transported to a hospital but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Firefighters from South New Berlin, New Berlin, Sherburne, Norwich and Mount Upton all responded to the scene.

Fire officials have said they expect an increase in the number of house fires this time of year as the heating season gets underway and people turn on their furnaces or light woodstoves and fireplaces for the first time.  Residents are encouraged to have their systems checked and maintenance done as well as chimneys cleaned before seriously cold weather moves in.
