Fire Destroys Vacant First Ward Hotel

Smoke from the burning Lincoln Hotel on Clinton Street, Binghamton  could be seen hanging in the air miles away.  Residents in Johnson City noticed the smell of smoke yesterday evening while the abandoned building on Binghamton's First Ward burned.

The blaze was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. June 6.

It took firefighters hours just to bring the flames under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no reports of injuries.

Police presence remained on the scene overnight, keeping watch over the site.

Authorities planned to pick up the investigation in the morning.
