Officials are investigating the cause of a huge fire that destroyed a historic Chenango County building.

The blaze broke out at around 1 p.m. December 14 at the 124 year old South Otselic Store, that also houses a police sub-station and apartments on State Highway 26.

Nine fire companies were called to the scene. There were no injuries.

The building has been declared a total loss.

Five families lived in the structure and are being assisted by the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross.
