Cold temperatures are again challenging firefighters in the region.

Wind chills hovered in the below zero range January 23 as Chenango County Emergency Services officials say a home in Oxford was destroyed by fire in spite of the efforts of firefighters from a half dozen departments.

The blaze was reported shortly after 3 p.m. at the home on Owlville Road.

There were no injuries and the investigation into the cause continues.

Firefighters from Oxford, Greene, Coventry, Brisben, Bainbridge and Afton worked at the scene.

Wind chill advisories have been in effect, on and off, for most of the week.

The cold temperatures have been causing special challenges for firefighters with frozen hoses in addition to dangerous conditions to the health and safety of the crews working at a fire scene.
