A blaze in an eight-unit apartment house on Binghamton's West Side was quickly extinguished late Monday morning.

The fire at 41 Floral Avenue was reported at 10:56 a.m.

Deputy fire chief Brian O'Loughlin told WNBF News the blaze was confined to a second-floor bedroom in the two-story building at the corner of Floral and Cleveland avenues.

O'Loughlin said the fire was brought under control in less than ten minutes. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was called to provide assistance to building residents, who O'Loughlin said were thought to be students.

O'Loughlin said damage appeared confined to the bedroom where the fire originated and its contents. He said the building's seven other apartments remained habitable.

O'Loughlin said a closed bedroom door kept the fire from spreading to other sections of the apartment.

No one was believed to have been in that apartment when the fire broke out.
