The Town of Fenton Zoning Board of Appeals is cutting down plans to develop a natural gas transfer-compression station on the West Service Road by the narrowest of margins.

The Board has voted three to two to reject the proposal by NG Advantage that had been sent back to the drawing board last year when a court ruled that some of the permits had not been properly completed.

NG Advantage had already broken ground on the Hillcrest facility when residents, officials with the Chenango Valley School District and others protested, expressing concerns about safety, traffic and the location of the facility so near to neighborhoods, schools and parks.

Among those weighing in on the issue last year was New York State Senator Fred Akshar, who is a self-professed supporter of developing the natural gas industry.  The Colesville Republican said while he was not necessarily against the project as a whole, he did not feel it was a good fit for the location and other sites may be more suitable in Broome County.

NG officials are reviewing their options.
