Binghamton Congressman Maurice Hinchey is announcing the Federal Emergency Management Agency is awarding $19.7 million to the Binghamton City School District to replace the MacArthur Elementary School that was destroyed by flooding in 2011 during Tropical Storm Lee.

The FEMA funding will cover about 75% of the project costs. New York State has committed to paying 25% of the eligible costs.

The school district is planning to update residents on the future of MacArthur Elementary at a public meeting December 20th at the Columbus School.
