Years after floods heavily damaged dozens of properties in the City of Binghamton, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has come through with a $2.7 million grant to buy and demolish the properties.

The Parcels, many along the Susquehanna Street Corridor, will be razed to make way for new green space to be used as public gardens or parks.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David said the 23 properties include a cluster of 14 demolitions planned for south of Susquehanna Street and will redevelop the long blighted neighborhood into a more attractive sight when travelers are coming into the City.

The residents still living in the targeted areas will be relocated to new homes.
