U.S. Senator Charles Schumer of New York says a promise he made last year to have Broome County included as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area has been successful.

The Democrat says the designation has been made by the President’s Office of National Drug Control Policy and will mean more money from the federal level to local law enforcement and treatment programs to help deal with the drug problem.  28 regions around the country have been designated HIDTAs.
