Delaware County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a crash in Walton February 25 that claimed the life of a New Jersey man.

Authorities say 43 year old Andrew Thompson of Tenafly was driving east on State Highway 206 with his family Saturday afternoon when an oncoming car, driven by 41 year old Joel Alves of Hopewell Junction, New York, crossed into his lane, hitting the Thompson car head-on.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.  Deputies say his wife and six year old son were injured. The wife was treated at an area hospital and released while the child was transferred to a different hospital for evaluation.

Authorities say Alves was reportedly driving with a suspended license.  He was also taken to a hospital, treated and released.

State Highway 206 was shut down for several hours Saturday evening while the investigation was being conducted.

Deputies say they do expect charges will be filed when the investigation is done.
