Motorists traveling the main route linking Utica, Sherburne, Norwich and Oxford to the Greater Binghamton Area may be in for some slowdowns and delays for months due to a bridge project.

The New York State Department of Transportation says the work on the $1.1 million rehabilitation of the Route 12 Bridge over Fly Meadow Creek in the Town of Oxford in Chenango County got underway on May 18.

The work includes a structural deck replacement with new bridge railings and transitions, substructure repair, bearing replacement and other needed improvements to connect the new bridge deck to the adjoining roadway.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of this November.
