Appearing on Southern Tier Close Up, Broome County Public Health Nurse, Marian Hollander says flu season is still in full swing.

Speaking on the weekly local public affairs program March 4, Hollander stresses that it is not too late for people to get a flu shot.

The Registered Nurse with the Broome County Health Department also talks about the differences between flu and cold, prevention and treatment.  A big line of defense, according to Hollander is hand washing and disinfecting "high-touch" surfaces like light switches, bathroom faucets and telephone receivers.

Hollander also touches on the recent confirmed case of Meningitis at the Maine Endwell school district and what residents and students should know about the potentially fatal disease.

Anyone with any questions or concerns should contact their primary care provider.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
