Events by EventfulWalk to Defeat ALS
ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that usually attacks both upper and lower motor neurons and causes degeneration throughout the brain and spinal cord. A common first symptom is a painless weakness in a hand, foot, arm or leg, which occurs in more than half of all cases. Other early symptoms include speech swallowing or walking difficulty.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people across the country bring their determination, energy, and passion to the Walk to Defeat ALS® . This is an opportunity to bring hope to people with ALS, to raise money for a cure, and to join together to fight for something we care about.
What started as a small group of concerned citizens has now grown to a nation-wide campaign with more than 175,000 participants annually. Since 2000, the events have had continued positive growth and have raised over $159 million toward our vision – a world without ALS. The Walk to Defeat ALS® empowers people with ALS, family, friends, and the community to fight back against a disease that often leaves many feeling powerless.
