Additional Information

In this overnight camp, students will learn about the solar system, its formation, how the sun and planets formed, their compositional differences, and the orbits of these objects. Daytime hours will be filled with interactive lectures and hands-on labs. Weather permitting, evenings will be spent observing and imaging a variety of planetary objects. Several astrophotography tools such as DSLR cameras, Web cams, and Kopernik’s new state-of-the-art CCD camera will be used to image different planetary objects such as the Moon, planets, asteroids, and dwarf planets. If skies are cloudy, students will do related activities including image processing. Throughout the camp, students will work on individual and team projects. Students will stay overnight at Kopernik and participate in recreational activities such as swimming and hiking. Meals and snacks are included.
Planetary Expedition runs from 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29.
