The Erie Community College Kats defeated the two-time defending champion Williston State Tetons 2-1 to win the NJCAA Ice Hockey Championship held at SUNY Broome's Ice Center.

The Kats came into the weekend as the number one-seed in the four-team tournament.  Williston State from North Dakota was the second seed and had won the title in 2013 and 2014.  Erie Community College from Buffalo was the 2011 national champion.

The contest was tied at 1-1 through the first two periods of play. The Kats took a 2-1 lead in the early going of the third period.  The Tetons battled back but were unable to tie the game to send it into overtime.  The table was set for that scenario as Williston State had three power-play opportunities in the final ten minutes of play including a five minute major for boarding that put the Tetons a man up for the final 3:19.

Erie was superb in killing off the Williston State man advantages.  Keying the penalty kills was goaltender William Korczynski, freshman from West Seneca, NY who refused to let any shot get by him.
