A riding mower used by community volunteers for a roadside beautification project in Endwell has been stolen.

The Endwell Rotary Club's John Deere tractor broke down late Monday afternoon as it was being used to cut the grass in the Hooper Road circle.

The disabled green-and-yellow mower was gone by the time a repair service arrived at the site. Club members believe it was stolen sometime between 7:45 and 8:45 p.m.

The Rotary Club has maintained the grassy area off East Main Street for several decades as an "Adopt-A-Highway" project.

The theft has been reported to New York State Police as well as businesses where the mower may turn up.

People who have information about the incident may contact state police at 607.775.1241.

A Rotary Club member who called WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Wednesday also suggested the person who picked up the mower could simply return it to the site so volunteers can resume using it.
