Authorities say 25-year-old Josiah Smoker was arrested Sunday evening after $311 was reported missing from a Subway restaurant on Hooper Road in Endwell.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a supervisor discovered the money was missing from the cash register at the business.

Investigators say a review of the store's security video revealed Smoker taking the money from the drawer.

Around the same time, Smoker called the supervisor to say he was quitting his job and leaving town.

A sheriff's deputy was able to track down Smoker before he got very far. He was arrested and charged with petit larceny.

Authorities say Smoker was processed and released on an appearance ticket.
