A brief visit to the hospital has preceded a trip to jail for an Endwell man after authorities say he swallowed several packets of heroin when he was stopped by police.

32 year old Mark Roberto was stopped the evening of June 4 on Liberty Street at Robinson Street in the City of Binghamton.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force says Roberto had agreed to sell heroin to another person, then swallowed some of the drug when officers approached.

He was found in possession of 15 paper folds of heroin and two hypodermic needles, one of which was loaded with methamphetamine.

He was released from the hospital about 24 hours after being taken into custody and immediately taken to the Broome County Jail without bail.

Roberto is charged with felony criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminalpossession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence as well as misdemeanor cirminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using a hypodermic instrument.
