Endwell Blood Plasma Center to Open in September
A blood plasma collection facility that pays donors is expected to open in Broome County in a few weeks.
A contractor working for CSL Plasma made renovations at a small Endwell retail plaza over the last several months.
The collection center will be located at 519 Hooper Road, just south of Smith Drive.
A spokesman for CSL Plasma Tuesday said the Town of Union facility is expected to open around September 1. CSL Plasma also to plans to open a similar center in Schenectady around the same time.
According to the company's website, centers already are in operation in Syracuse and in the Rochester area.
The Endwell office initially is expected to employ about 40 people. A CSL Plasma representative last year told the town board the workforce at the site could eventually grow to about 50. Up to 200 donors a day are expected to visit the center.
The renovation work to prepare the facility was expected to cost $1.3 million.
The Florida-based CSL Plasma now operates 200 collections sites around the world.
Signs posted at the future Endwell facility indicate the company will pay plasma donors up to 300 dollars a month.
The plasma is used by CSL to manufacture products used for healthcare applications.
