Police say a five-year-old Endicott boy sustained bruises to his face and head when he was assaulted by his mother.

Authorities say 22-year-old Kimberly Walicke of West Main Street was charged with felony assault in the incident. She also faces a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

An Endicott police investigator says the boy was treated for his injuries and released. He was turned over to a relative.

Walicke was arraigned in Endicott village court and sent to Broome County Jail without bail.
