Residents in the region are being reminded not to seek relief from the heat by tampering with fire hydrants.

Residents in the Endicott water district were advised to use water sparingly over the weekend after the unauthorized use of several hydrants caused a pressure drop in the system and discolored water.

The village pressed every available source into service to replenish its water supply.

Residents in the Endwell and North Endicott areas were advised to conserve water into Saturday evening, not to wash clothes in discolored water and to run cold water for several minutes once pressure was restored to clear the lines of residue.
