A small electrical fire at Jennie F. Snapp Middle School in Endicott was quickly extinguished Friday morning.

The blaze near a classroom inside the school at 101 Loder Avenue was reported at 7:52 a.m.

An odor in the building following the fire prompted a brief evacuation. Students went to a designated site, a nearby church, while the situation was investigated.

Students and teachers returned a short time later and the regular class schedule resumed.

A statement released by the Union-Endicott Central School District indicated no students or staff members had been in danger during the incident.

School officials said there was no damage to the classroom or the building.

The Snapp school has students in grades six through eight.
