A committee exploring the future of the Endicott police department is continuing to examine possible savings and potential complications if the Broome County Sheriff's Office took charge of village law enforcement.

On Monday, the panel held its second meeting since being created a few weeks ago.

Staffing of the police station main desk is one of the issues being considered.

If the sheriff's department takes over, the desk likely would no longer be staffed around the clock. Dispatching responsibilities would be handled by the county communications center during non-business hours.

In addition to police station staffing, there are questions regarding benefits to department employees that must be addressed.

In recent weeks, dozens of signs of popped up around Endicott proclaiming support for the village police department.
