Authorities say 25-year-old Vernon Riddick is a "person of interest" in Tuesday afternoon's incident near 88 Liberty Street.

Investigators say a 27-year-old man was shot in the leg around 12:10 p.m. The wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police will not release his name.

Detectives describe Riddick as a black male; about 5 feet, 7 inches tall; and 150 pounds.

Police are seeking assistance from the public in finding Riddick. People with information about his whereabouts may contact the Detective Bureau at 607.772.7080.

Investigators are advising people who might see Riddick not to approach him.

The drive-by shooting happened on Liberty Street between Lyon and Munsell streets.

A United States Postal Service truck was in the neighborhood at the time of the incident. Police officers searched around and under the vehicle looking for evidence in the early stages of the investigation.

A woman who lives near the shooting scene told WNBF News she had heard a one gunshot. When she looked outside, she saw the man who had been shot limping on a sidewalk.

Detectives had alerted area police agencies of a vehicle that may have been involved in the shooting. At the time of the notice, police said the driver was a woman with a man riding as a passenger.
