Police have charged an Endwell man with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked a woman in an Endicott apartment.

Authorities say 22-year-old Drew Townsend of 832 Catalina Boulevard was arrested Sunday after a reported domestic incident.

According to Endicott police, officers were called to an apartment building at 36 Arthur Avenue around 8:30 a.m.

Investigators say Townsend is accused of choking a 43-year-old woman and repeatedly striking her. The woman allegedly was hit with an object. The object used in the attack was not identified.

Police say the woman was taken by a Union Volunteer Emergency Squad ambulance to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment. Officials did not indicate the nature or severity of her injuries. Her condition was not released.

Townsend was charged with one count of second-degree attempt murder. He was arraigned in Endicott village court. He was sent to Broome County Jail without bail.
