Your Empties Can Help Binghamton Shelter Dogs

If you have a lot of empty cans and bottles after watching TV Sunday night, you may be able to put them to good use.

The Humane Society in Binghamton has a can and bottle drive contest this week. People who drop off a bag of returnable containers during the society's office hours will be entered to win a gift card for Target.

Entries will be accepted for those who bring deposit cans and bottles to the shelter through this Saturday. The office will be open Thursday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m; and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The shelter is at 2 Jackson Street on Binghamton's South Side.

Humane society donation coordinator Laura Melville made a surprise visit to the WNBF Binghamton Now studio Wednesday with a canine friend named Carly.

It turned out Carly is very affectionate and enjoys the special environment found only inside a radio station.
