Some local emergency responders are expressing concern about All Terrain Vehicle safety with the summer season getting underway.

A juvenile girl was sent to the hospital June 17 after crashing an ATV at about 7 p.m. on Hoag Childs Road in Preston in Chenango County.  The girl was driving on a public road, which is not allowed.  She’s been released from the hospital into the custody of her parents but has not been charged with anything.

First Responders say they expect to be called to a growing number of ATV crashes through the season and, based on past years, some of those could result in serious injury or death.

Officials urge riders and parents to be familiar with laws and practices of safe operation of ATVs.
