Ellis Brothers Furniture has been a landmark in downtown Binghamton.  A fire that destroyed their Contemporary Furniture Store on Water Street in April of this year raised concerns that they may have to leave downtown to rebuild.  According to Charles Ellis, spokesman for the group, that was never their intention.  Just days ago they moved their Contemporary Furniture inventory into the former location of a downtown bank and Tiffany's Restaurant on Court Street.  Since that time they have received numerous positive responses from that relocation.  It has given that portion of Court Street new life.

That location, however, will only be temporary.  Friday, they unveiled an architect's design of their planned new store in the old J C Penney building at the corner of Court and Hawley Streets.  They will completely rebuild and expand the interior of the building adding additional levels and offering  a wider variety of furniture including items of interest to the increasing number of college students living in and around the downtown.

If the renovation and expansion work runs on schedule Ellis Brothers Contemporary Furniture plans to open as early as next summer.
