Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Supporters of St. Patrick School in Owego say they have not met the $500,000 goal of a fundraising campaign launched about six weeks ago.

Parents have been told Tioga County's only Catholic school was in serious jeopardy of closing.

Financial support for the school has been provided by a neighboring parish but that money will no longer be provided.

The announced deadline for the community fundraising campaign is March 15.

Pam Bouton, who has a child who is a St. Patrick School student, says people and organizations have expressed interest in helping.

In a statement released today, Bouton said the school will close unless it receives "an immediate investment in the next five days."

The school currently has 56 children enrolled in grades kindergarten through six.

Officials have said If the fundraising goal is met, the school then must secure the enrollment of at least 60 students by April 30.

The school was established in 1859. People interested in helping the school may contact its office at 607.687.1770.
