Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a multiple-vehicle crash on State Route 17 West at 9:23 P.M. on Saturday, December 22.  According to a press release from the Office of the Sheriff deputies report that three vehicles were involved.

Upon further investigation deputies found that a vehicle driven by 55 year-old Bradley Gerhart, age 55 from Camden Street in Johnson City had struck a vehicle on Downs Avenue in Binghamton and fled the scene.  He then drove onto Route 17 Westbound and rear-ended another vehicle which in turn pushed that vehicle into another.  When deputies arrived on the Route 17 West crash scene they found that the driver who caused the crashes had fled on foot.  Deputies located the driver identified as Gerhart over an embankment and hiding.  He was taken into custody and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

Occupants who were in the vehicles that crashed due to Gerhart's actions were transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Bradley was issued multiple Uniform Traffic Tickets and released with a future court date in the Town of Union and Village of Johnson City Courts.
