Dryden Traffic Stop Results In Gun Charge

Bob Joseph/WNBF News

A South Carolina man was sent to Tompkins County Jail after he was accused of possessing a gun without a valid New York state permit.

Authorities say 32-year-old Charles E. Smith of Charlotte was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to state police, Smith was stopped by a trooper on Route 13 in Dryden. Officials say the vehicle Smith was driving had a non-working headlight.

Police say a loaded Taurus .38 caliber revolver was found in the vehicle.

Smith was arraigned in Dryden town court. He was sent to Tompkins County Jail on $1,000 bail.
