Authorities say 21-year-old Luke Abbey of Owego was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer and reckless driving following a chase. He also was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana.

According to state police, a trooper observed Abbey driving at 84 mph in a 65 mph zone on the expressway on Monday morning.

Abbey is said to have exited the highway and continued onto the Vestal Parkway and Route 26 before re-entering Route 17.

Police say Abbey eventually stopped at Exit 68, where he was arrested. The vehicle was searched after the trooper smelled marijuana. The search turned up unlawfully possessed metal knuckles and a small amount of marijuana.

Abbey was ordered to appear in Vestal town court on March 14.
