A Binghamton man faces several charges after he allegedly drove away from a Johnson City DWI checkpoint.

Authorities say 24-year-old Dustin Showers was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony. He also was charged with fleeing a police officer, reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Police say Saturday's checkpoint was set up on Route 201. They say Showers was directed to pull to the side of the road. But instead of stopping, police say, the driver raced away at a high rate of speed.

Officials say the vehicle was stopped in Vestal. They say the man's blood alcohol content was measured at 0.26 percent.

Showers was directed to appear in Johnson City village court to answer the charges.
