A former Vestal resident is accused of leaving fifty cats behind when she moved to Apalachin sometime in October.

Vestal Police and the B.C. Humane Society investigated reports of a large number of cats left at a home on Lincoln Drive.

59 year old Mary Herko-Daniels is charged with abandonment of animals and failure to provide proper sustenance to animals. Both counts are misdemeanors under the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.

The cats, many of which are sick and malnourished, were removed from the house by the Humane Society and are getting veterinary care before they will be available for adoption.

More information on adoption and donating to the Humane Society can be found at www.bchumanesoc.com.
