Dozens of New York Governments Face Financial Stress

The New York State Comptroller says many governments in the state are susceptible to financial stress.  In the Southern Tier, that includes Broome County.

A report from Thomas DiNapoli's office identifies 14 governments in the state as already under fiscal stress.

88 governments had either not filed the necessary financial information with the office or were under review.  The City of Binghamton, which only recently completed terms of a state audit, is one of those municipalities listed as not filing on the report.

Using 23 financial and environmental indicators, including cash-on-hand and patterns of operating deficits, Broom County is among the communities identified as susceptible to financial stress.
