The facility at 203 Court Street should open within the next several weeks.

Richard Kazel of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs said the new clinic tentatively is expected to go into operation sometime during April.

The downtown facility will replace the clinic that's been located at the Greater Binghamton Center on Robinson Street for several years.

Kazel said the new location will be very accessible and convenient for those who are traveling into Binghamton from Interstate 81 and Route 17.

The Court Street site will have more usable clinic space to improve efficiency while providing services that previously were not offered.

Kazel said about 4,200 veterans now are enrolled at the Binghamton outpatient clinic. He said that number is expected to grow "dramatically" because of increasing demand for services.

About 17,000 veterans are eligible for care at the outpatient clinic. The local facility serves vets in Broome, Tioga, Chenango and Otsego counties.
