Property valued at about $4,000 was stolen from a pickup truck in the State Street ramp Wednesday morning.

The vehicle's passenger side window was smashed and its tonneau cover over the cargo bed was slashed.

The truck owner - a city of Binghamton employee - said a laptop computer, iPods and other items were taken from the vehicle. He said the thief did not taken a package of Jolly Rancher candy and a collection of prayers written by his late grandmother.

A police department crime scene unit investigator processed the truck for fingerprints and other evidence.

Authorities say on Tuesday afternoon, someone smashed the window of a car parked in the Water Street garage and stole about $800 in cash.

Similar smash-and-grab thefts and vehicle vandalism incidents have become commonplace in the city-owned ramps in recent months. In February, more than two-dozen cars and trucks were damaged in an overnight incident.

No arrests have been reported in the incidents. Police officers are checking the parking garages more frequently but the culprits have been able to slip in and out of the ramps without be caught.

No additional cameras or new security measures have been observed at the garages since the crime wave started.
