An apartment house near the baseball stadium in downtown Binghamton was evacuated as police began to investigate a possible meth-making operation.

Authorities ordered people to leave the four-story building on Henry Street late Tuesday afternoon. The house is located across the the main post office.

Police called for assistance from the fire department around 5 p.m. A specialized New York State Police unit also responded to the scene.

A bottle that may have been used to produce meth reportedly was removed from an apartment.

Air samples taken from inside the building revealed no hazardous chemicals.

Binghamton police detectives were continuing to investigate and were not available to provide information about the incident.
