A public information meeting has been scheduled for a Tioga County bridge replacement project.

The state Department of Transportation is developing plans to replace a span that carries Route 17C over Cayuta Creek in the village of Waverly.

Agency representatives will discuss the project on June 17 at the village offices on Ithaca Street. An open house is to start at 6 p.m. followed by a formal presentation an hour later.

According to the DOT, the 85-year-old bridge has a 17-ton weight limit. The bridge is inspected on a regular basis.

The replacement project is in the preliminary design phase.

Construction of the new bridge could start in 2016, although the project schedule could change.

People unable to attend the informational meeting may contact project manager Marc Broder to discuss the bridge replacement plans. His office phone number is 607.721.8240 and his email address is Marc.Broder@dot.state.ny.gov.
