The domestic violence agency, Rise, formerly known as the SOS Shelter, has a new Executive Director.

The Board of Directors say Nichole Barren is replacing Rebecca Allerton, who is retiring Friday after serving over 16 years as the director of the agency.

Allerton originally directed the SOS Shelter from 1990 to 2001 when she retired before returning as director in 2011.

The shelter for victims of domestic violence opened in 1979.
