Brent Dodge is the new village of Johnson City police chief. The 40-year-old Dodge began his duties as chief today, following his appointment by the village board Tuesday night.

During a live interview on WNBF's Binghamton Now program this morning, Dodge said he was with Joseph Zikuski, who had served as Johnson City police chief in recent years, along with his duties as chief for the Binghamton Police Department.

Dodge said he was working with Zikuski on the transition process.

During the interview, Dodge talked about growing up in Tioga County. He recalled working part-time at the Tioga County Jail while he was going through college.

Dodge later worked for the Tioga County Sheriff's Office for three years on road patrol. After that, he joined the Johnson City Police Department.

Dodge acknowledged he hadn't been particularly interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement until he had the job as correction officer. That position put him in touch with road patrol deputies and others in law enforcement. He said: "It struck me as very interesting" and he moved to a life in police work.
