DiNapoli: Village Clerk Stole Thousands Of Dollars
A former village government worker in Steuben County faces felony charges for allegedly stealing more than $40,000 by writing checks to herself.
Authorities say 35-year-old Kristina Johnson had been the clerk and treasurer of the village of Riverside.
According to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Johnson has been charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records.
DiNapoli said for more than two years, Johnson "flagrantly stole taxpayer dollars" by writing herself extra payroll checks. The comptroller said Johnson also is accused of "pocketing cash and misusing the village credit card."
Johnson was terminated by the village in February. She now lives in North Carolina.
